Calculate The Recommended Pump For Your Sytem

CALCULATE THE RECOMMENDED PUMP FOR YOUR AQUARIUM, POND, or SYSTEM with this simple utility.

What flow rate do you want at your tank or pond?

What size piping are your using?

How many feet ABOVE the pump will the water outputs into the tank or pond be located?

What is the total length of piping being used to bring water from the filter sump, through the pump and up to the tank or pond?

How many 'ELBOW' fittings are your using?

How many 'TEE' fitting are you using?

How many '45 ELBOW' fitting are you using?

Are you using a canister filter? If so, select the total normal operating p.s.i. of all the canisters powered by the pump being specified here:

From the imformation you entered above, we recommend using a pump rated for gallons per hour at feet of head pressure.

This utility assumes several basic plumbing principles, one being that you DO NOT reduce the output piping diameter of your pump. The second being that you DO NOT reduce the input piping diameter of your pump. The third AND MOST IMPORTANT being that your pump has a flooded suction. A flooded suction means that under normal operating circumstances, water will reach the intake of the pump without the pump operating.

This utility uses several factors to provide an answer that is as accurate as possible, but it is still an approximation.

**3/4 INCH DIAMETER PIPING IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON SYSTEMS WITH A FLOW RATE OVER 1200 GALLONS PER HOUR**

**1 INCH DIAMETER PIPING IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON SYSTEMS WITH A FLOW RATE OVER 2000 GALLONS PER HOUR**

**1-1/2 INCH DIAMETER PIPING IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON SYSTEMS WITH A FLOW RATE OVER 4000 GALLONS PER HOUR**
